For Mrs. Carpenter

Auto Date Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

Senior retreatThis is the painting I did for Mrs. Carpenter the rockin’ librarian as a goodbye gift. (She’s also featured in the center of the painting.) It was a fun style to work in and I’m particularly fond of the way the shirts turned out, however, it’s not a very good likeness of any of the people. It looks vaguely like me (near right), Heather (far right), and Mrs. C, but doesn’t remotely resemble Christie (far left) or Gina (near left). I need to work on that. (acrylic on canvas, 18×24)

Next projects: finish up an altered book or two, figure out the clock book, watercolor self-portrait of me in graduation dress with roses, pop art portrait of my brother, and painted something for Gina’s dorm room. Also a pencil drawing of something. I have a wierd and scary compulsion to do another killer still life, just because I can.

Speaking of killer pencil still lifes, the track still life won the senior art award and earned me $50, the first money I’ve ever made from my artwork. Actually it won along with Liz and her cherries, but I can deal with that. I wanted that prize ever since the first Honors Assembly freshman year, and behold! I actually achieved a goal. The picture is now the property of the Mount and will hopefully hang somewhere in the gym. So yay. I think I’ll blow the money on art supplies.
