Stained glass lily

Auto Date Sunday, January 23rd, 2005

Stained glass lilyThis is the stained glass panel I did when I took the class at the community college back in the spring. I’ve only just gotten around to photographing it and it still isn’t hung up anywhere. The design is not original, for the record, otherwise you know it would have been some sort of sun/moon/star thing. (I’m predictable that way.) It was fun to do, both easier and more difficult than I expected. It didn’t come naturally, that’s for sure. Stained glass, while definitely an art form, borders on too “crafty” for my taste, although I won’t rule out further experimentation with it. I’m considering taking a glass panel lamp class at the same place. We’ll see. (stained glass, 10×14″)

Self portrait #3: Cubism

Auto Date Saturday, January 22nd, 2005

Cubist self-portraitThis is the cubist self portrait I started a few months ago. I finally finished the background tonight. I don’t usually have time to do much outside of school, especially fairly major projects like this one, which is why it sat around unfinished for awhile. However, I’m happy with the way it turned out. I like the color scheme in particular and I think it bears at least a passing resemblance to me. This style is definitely more suited to the crazy hair than the pop art was. I had to take the photo without a flash because there was a glare, which is why the colors are a little dark. The darkest shade in the background is dark green, rather than black as it appears. Oh…and the reason this one looks almost exactly like the pop art one in terms of pose and expression is that I used that one to get the basic shapes down. (acrylic on canvas, 16×20)
